Consumer design trend forecaster WGSN recently announced the five key colors they expect will be big in the fall-winter season of 2022-23, and one color we were excited to see was golden honeycomb. Honeycomb, both the color and the shape, feels immediately warm and comforting. The hexagon is perfectly symmetrical and able to be tessellated, and when we see a honeycomb pattern, we can’t help but think of the sweet, good things in nature.
Designers love a honeycomb pattern, too. We’ve seen honeycomb-shaped mirrors, ottomans, and shelving units, but the most common place for this natural shape to appear in a home is in the tile.
From bathrooms to kitchens and everywhere in between, honeycomb is a great choice for tile because of the unique tessellations one can create. This allows you to build unusual or creative shapes with your tiling, rather than ending with a straight line.
Small honeycomb tiles are a more classic choice. A cousin of the penny round (so named because they’re the same size as a penny!), small hexagon-shaped tiles in either black or white were wildly popular in the earlier 20th century. We love them because they make us think of vintage pharmacies or department stores.
If you’re looking for a way to integrate more honeycomb into your home or commercial space, might we suggest our Honeycomb Perforated Grille? Consisting of hexagonal shapes that are horizontally (not vertically) aligned, this grille design is our nod toward one of our favorite natural shapes, and we hope it brings some extra sweetness to your space.
With a variety of materials and finishes to choose from, this pattern can be fully customized in size and thickness to suit both your engineering and architectural needs. And, of course, it’s designed for optimal air flow and ventilation.
Here at ARCHITECTURAL GRILLE, we stay ahead of design trends so that we can provide our clients with metalwork that meets their needs, from grilles to custom pieces. We love it when a client finds a pattern within our vast array of grille designs that perfectly complements their current project, but if the perfect pattern doesn’t exist, we can create it.
