Design Trendspotting: Daring to Mix Styles

If there’s one overarching design guideline for the new decade, it’s this: there are no rules.

By mixing design aesthetics and even integrating off-trend items into rooms, designers are creating spaces that tell unique stories. More and more, we’re seeing bold wallpaper patterns mixed with unexpected textiles to create spaces that are truly one-of-a-kind.

More importantly, this all-out embrace of eclecticism and the intentional clashing of trends allows designers to create spaces that reflect the people who live in them, encompassing their individual identities and experiences.

It’s not about finding a statement sofa and building a room around it. Instead, key pieces are chosen from the homeowner’s art collection, travels, or family.

In crafting the Xian Perforated Grille, we also drew upon travel — in this case, traditional Chinese lattices found wandering through the streets of Xi'an. The interlocking squares and rectangles deliver a distinctly modern aesthetic, perfect for juxtaposing with surprising patterns and design elements to help capture the personality of world travelers.

Our team here at ARCHITECTURAL GRILLE analyzes and anticipates design trends so that we can provide our clients with metalwork that meets their needs, from grilles to custom pieces. We love it when a client finds a pattern within our vast array of grille designs that perfectly complements their current project, but if the perfect pattern doesn’t exist, we can create it.
