Design Trendspotting: Staycation

Design Trendspotting: Staycation

With the reduction and, in many cases, outright absence of international travel throughout 2020 and early 2021, people are taking elements from the broader world and bringing them home for a staycation.

With a mix of cool blues, and accents like wood floors and furniture, warm-hued woven home accessories, and exotic plants, it captures the aesthetic of beach vacations, international styles, and global travel. Rooted in the desire to get away and relax, staycation in design is a trip around the world without leaving home.

Whether you’re inspired by a beachside cottage, a Parisian café, a Greek island retreat, or a cruise along the Nile, a staycation can take elements of those areas and bring them home. Taking calming elements like canvas prints from locations that inspire you, furniture with global inspiration, and textiles with themes from your favorite places in the world are key to making your space feel as relaxing and inviting as a distant destination.

Incorporating oceanic blues is also a major trend for 2021. In fact, Benjamin Moore named Aegean Teal its color of the year.

When integrating staycation themes into our grilles, we took inspiration from the Mediteranean island nation of Malta for our Maltese Perforated Grille. Coming in a variety of finishes including brass, bronze, and aluminum, the Maltese Perforated Grille is an eye-catching design that will bring the wow factor to any room.
